God is Still Speaking,

Music & Bells Ministry

Choir Rehearsals each Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
Bell Choir Rehearsals on selected Wednesdays

The Ministry of Music is alive and well at Good Samaritan, both because of an active participation of the congregation in hymn and response singing and the special ministry of the choir.

Before the service begins there is often special music on the organ or the singing of a favorite hymn recommended by a member. Pastor Sue Sherwood selects worship-service hymns both from the Presbyterian and United Church of Christ hymnals.

Joining the choir offers a special camaraderie for those who sing. The choir performs a weekly anthem and sometimes provides special music at the beginning of worship. Rehearsals take place each Sunday at 9:15 a.m. All friends of Good Sam are welcome to participate even though they may only attend several Sundays a year. Members are always on the lookout to recruit new singers. The choir size varies with the season, but averages about 8 - 10 people. A favorite activity each Christmas is to sing for shut-ins in the area who are members and friends.

Each week at the end of the service the entire congregation forms a closing circle, joins hand, and sings a closing benediction before wishing for the world "Salaam, Shalom, Peace."

Al Frymier got church members dusting off our handbells and we now have a full handbell choir that plays once a month.  A local harpist joins us for special occasions and we have loved our organ-piano duets.  We celebrated our Peace Month with sunset drumming around our Peace Pole.  Recently we used our hymnal for a "Festival of Creation."  We have also had bagpipes and bugle on some of our second-Sunday tolling of the church bell for lives lost in Iraq as a reminder of the high cost of war.
