The Care Team is of the heart of this Beloved Community. Jack Wilcox, who formed, developed, and nurtured this ministry, retired at the end of 2008. We are seeking one or two people to pick up the mantle and continue this vital work of compassion. lf this ministry speaks to you, please contact Rev. Sue.
The goals of the Care Team are to inspire the members of Good Samaritan Church to be, in the words of Jack Wilcox, a "community of core" — a congregation faithful in prayer and supporting the pastor in ministering to those who are sick, hospitalized, in crisis, lonely, and home-bound.
Every Sunday the "St. James List" appears in the morning bulletin: The names of church members, their family, friends and neighbors who stand in the need of prayer. These are folks who face difficult health issues, deal with grief, or struggle with other life situations. Please review this listing each week and hold them up for God's blessing. Hopefully you will focus on two or three persons each week and carry them in your heart. Prayer request cards are in the Registration Folder every Sunday.
The Prayer Choir has grown to Twenty church members who have committed themselves to link together to pray for persons with critical needs at anytime. Members with computers are connected by email; others are linked by a phone chain. Each request is faithfully lifted in petition, asking for God's power and presence to be effective in this life. We welcome anyone who would like to join The Prayer Chain and we are open to all prayer requests.
Another emphasis of The Care Team is to communicate with church members who have not been a part of The Sunday worshiping community for a couple of weeks or more. They receive a copy of The Sunday bulletin to enable them to keep up with Church events and also a friendly note of encouragement. We are grateful to The Nassers for their help and to Jim Allen and Dean Jacquard, who have graciously stepped up to continue this ministry.
